Eric had a wanderlust that meant he really had to leave WSU for a PhD. (He did his undergraduate work at WSU.) The research for his 2012 Master project with me, focused on analysis in metric spaces doubling metric spaces, went very quickly through intense work on his part. I then wrote him a letter that got him admitted (with support) into the analysis program at UCLA. He found that it did not fit him so well, though there were other social persuasions that ended up being factors in his switching to the Applied Mathematics Program at UCLA. He also has spent time while in graduate school, at Los Alamos and in Berlin. He is ABD in Applied Mathematics at UCLA and is currently working at Intel in Beaverton, Oregon.
