I was Daniel’s co-advisor on his master’s thesis work which ended up being somewhat mathematically involved, at least by food science standards. (His advisor was Carolyn Ross in Food Science at WSU) Daniel defended his Master's thesis in food science titled, Predicting Wine Sensory: Character using Singular Value Decomposition and Support Vector Machines in May of 2016. His thesis can be found as part of a collective of open source academic writing at Open Thesis. Daniel is now the Director of Winemaking for Blackbird Vineyards in California.
