Heather Van Dyke's March 2011 Talk

  • Time and Date: 4:10 pm Tuesday, March 8th

  • Location: 5W Neill Hall, WSU Mathematics Department

  • Title: Radially Symmetric Solutions to the Very Fast p-Laplacian Evolution Equation

  • Abstract: In this talk, I will introduce the p-Laplacian evolution equation (PLE) and the porous medium equation (PME) and give some applications to both. I will present a theorem that relates solutions of PME to solutions of PLE and use it to find radially symmetric solutions to the very fast p-Laplacian evolution equation.

  • Speaker Bio: Heather earned a Master's degree in Mathematics from Kansas State University in 2001 and is currently a graduate student working with Tom Asaki on the very fast p-Laplacian evolution equation and its application to image analysis.

  • Background Information for Talk: For background on this problem, one might want to read section 2.3.1a of Craig Evans', "Partial Differential Equations."
