Geometric Analysis Seminar (581-1)
Time: Arranged (email me)
Place: Neill Hall, room 203
Credit: variable 1-6, graded
Structure: ongoing research seminar
Purpose
Very briefly, this is a research seminar. The primary purpose is to acquire tools and techniques and inspiration aimed directly at moving participants towards research projects and original innovations. In a bit more detail, this seminar explores various aspects of geometric analysis. By geometric analysis I mean geometric measure theory along with other topics from differential geometry, PDE, harmonic analysis, and analysis. Our specific goals are:
- in depth discussions of current research projects
- exploration of papers and inspirational works aligned with current research projects.
- acquisition of specific tools needed to solve particular problems we are solving.
We will make use of the books on geometric measure theory by Federer, Morgan, Simon, Krantz & Parks, Lin & Yang, and Mattila as well as Evans and Gariepy's Measure Theory and Fine Properties of Functions, and various monographs such as Rectifiable Sets, Densities and Tangent Measures by De Lellis (2008) and papers such as Curvature Measures by Federer (1959).
