WSU Wireless

Connecting.

Mac OS X

  • Tip: If the computer connects to the wireless, but still does not have internet access, it may help to restart the DHCP client by running the following command in the Terminal:

sudo ipconfig set en1 DHCP

Linux

  1. Left click on the wireless icon in the system tray and select WSU Wireless.

  2. Soon a dialog box should appear requesting the following information:

    Security:

    WPA & WPA2 Enterprise

    Authentication:

    Protected EAP (PEAP)

    CA Certificate:

    /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt

    PEAP version:

Automatic (Can also be set to Version 0)

    Inner authentication:

    MSCHAPv2

    Username:

    Your WSU Friend ID.

    Password:

    Your password.

  3. Finished.
Note: Sometimes it takes a few attempts to connect for the first time. You can try right clicking the wireless tray icon, uncheck Enable Wireless to disable the wireless adapter, then check the box again to re-enable it.

  4. By default, Debian/Ubuntu use a program called networkmanager to configure your network cards and establish connections. It usually works quite well, but its weak point seems to be in configuring wireless security protocols. An alternative is wpa_gui: Here is how to set it up.

Sponsoring a new account.

Any WSU Student or Faculty member may sponsor an account.

  1. Go to Sponsor an Account

  2. Enter the new user's name and email address (the email address is important!). Select these check boxes:
    • Wireless and SSLVPN enables Wifi access.

    • Sponsor Notification sends an email to the sponsor when the account is activated.

  3. Click Submit at the bottom of the page.

  4. The guest will now be sent an automatically generated email containing their Friend ID and a temporary password. They can follow the instructions in that email to activate their account.
