Please read through the handouts in the handouts section of the site for information on homework policy, aleks, and everything else you need to know for this class
EARLY AND LATE HW POLICY: There has been some confusion on late homework, and I would like to clear that up now. Homeworks are due at 2:30pm in my mailbox the day it is due, or at the start of class the day it due. Homework that is one day early receive +1 bonus point, not going over the maximum points allowed. Homework that is late, but still turned in before 5pm the day it is due will be deducted 1 point. Homework that is turned in by 5pm on the following lecture day will be deducted 2 points. Homeworks later than this will not be accepted.
Formatting you paper correctly is necessary to receive full credit. If you do not put your name, course number, homework number, and staple your assignments, you will lose points. I will not have a stapler on me, this is your responsibility. If you are in desperate need of a stapler, you can find one with the mailboxes in Neill.
If you use my mailbox to turn in your assignments, please be sure to use Larson, E, and not the similar Larson, R.
WEEK 1
First assignment: Questionnaire. Due August 26 in class (5 points): The point of this assignment is to get to get to know each other. Please look over my personal research page http://geometricanalysis.org/EricLarson and fill out this questionnaire (unrelated to my page).
Questionnaire (PDF) Questionnaire (MS WORD)
Second assignment: Math Passport to Success. Due September 2 in class (5 points): Find out where to get help for this course! There are three (free!) ways to get help with your homework, questions, or ideas outside of lecture, two study halls and my office hours. You are to visit each of them and get your "passport" stamped. Note that part of your grade for this class is to make use of these facilities at least seven different times in seven different weeks. For this first assignment you do not need to stay (but please do if you feel so inclined!). Future visits will only count if you actually stay and ask at least one question and work on your assignments.
Third assignment: Aleks Initial Assessment. Due August 26 5pm (5 points): Aleks needs to know your aptitude in algebra. Please plan lots of time for this assessment, I recommend 2-4 hours. It is very important to take this assessment seriously, because it will be a major influence in your online work this semester. You should not study before hand, but give it your best shot. See the Aleks Information handout in the handouts page.
Aleks
- NOTE: If you have used aleks in a previous semester, please sign up with our course code F6KCA-KKR4L and immediately email me. I have to reset your account so your previous work doesn't effect your work this semester. After I've cleared your account I will email you back and you may begin with your initial assessment.
- Your initial Aleks assessment is due this Friday (8-26). Please see the Aleks Information handout for more info. NOTE: You should set aside 2-4 hours for this assessment.
- Your first Aleks progress check is due this coming Monday (8-29). Depending on where you place in Aleks, this may take some time or your may be nearly complete.
